Residential Aged Care

How much does residential care cost?

A standard daily fee is set by the Federal Government. This fee is determined by whether or not you are receiving a pension, part pension, married or a single resident.

In addition to the daily fee a 'Care Recipient's Statement of Assets' must be completed for all incoming residents to enable an assessment as to whether a new resident will qualify to pay an Accommodation Bond.

This accommodation bond is a requirement of the Federal Government and is used to undertake building work to meet present standards or expand the services provided by the facility.

What is the difference between High and Low Care?

Before you can enter a Government subsidised residential facility the level of care you require will be assessed by an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT).

Our Nursing Homes provide the high care residents need when they become frail and dependent on a greater level of nursing care. Our Hostels are low care and provide support with daily grooming and personal hygiene.

I only need to stay a short while - what are my options?

Southern Cross Care (Qld) Inc along with their residential care service offer respite care at each of our facilities and a mobile service, which visits people in their homes.

Respite care offers temporary care, which allows your family or carer a little time out for appointments, family commitments or a much deserved holiday and they can rest assured that the standard of care is not compromised.

Retirement Villages

What is a Public Information Document (PID)?

The Public Information Document includes important information on the retirement village such as general village details, resident's rights and obligations, resident's contributions, resale and dispute information along with the Lease and Schedule.

The Public Information Document forms part of the written contract that you sign.

Should I seek legal advice?

Is the Retirement Villages registered?

All Southern Cross Retirement Villages are registered under the Retirement Villages Act 1999 and a copy of the certificate of registration is available within the PID.

Can I change my mind?

If you sign the residence contract, you will have a cooling off period of 14 days, after both parties have signed the document to withdraw from the residence contract.

You are entitled to immediately receive a full refund of any money you have paid. If you decide to withdraw from the residence contract after the cooling off period has expired, your rights and obligations will be subject to the terms of the residence contract that you have signed.

You may not have a legal right to withdraw from the residence contract after the cooling off period. You should discuss this with your legal adviser.
